St. Matthew Lutheran Church is dedicated to serving the Lord by witnessing, teaching, and living the love of Jesus Christ through worship, fellowship, and missional living in our community.

To bring people to Jesus and membership in His family, develop them to Christ-like maturity, and equip them for their ministry in church and life mission in the world.

Our vision is to be a permanent and growing part of the Darrtown and Oxford communities, to encourage in each person's life a dedication to God, to provide a nurturing, caring life-giving fellowship, and to find ways to serve others, as Jesus did.

Sunday morning worship service begins at 10 AM.

Communion is part of every service. We have a chime choir and special music is provided by strings and flute.

Much of the worship service is drawn from the various liturgies in the hymnal; however, there is much variety and freshness in combining traditional musical works with contemporary works. Our worship is also enhanced with a Power Point presentation to guide the service.

A fellowship session follows each service, with coffee and donuts. Visitors are always welcome to attend our church services and events.

Sunday School programs are available to adults and children.

Our programming for Sunday School will begin again in September and will follow the school year (9:15 AM). Currently students are working on confirmation topics.

We also work with the Darrtown Methodist Church to have a community Vacation Bible School in the summer. Our VBS program will be on July 7th through 11th this year (2019).  We will start with VBS Registration and a Dinner on July 7th.  Keep checking back for updates!

St. Matthew Lutheran Church has a long-standing history in the Darrtown community.

The first Lutheran Church in the Darrtown area was founded on July 2, 1844.

At the time, the Lutheran church, which was called Mt. Zion, was located  near Jerico, three miles northwest of Darrtown, near the intersection of State Route 177 and the Oxford-Somerville Road. Rev. George Sill, pastor of Samuel's Church in Hanover Township, is credited as being the founder of the church in Jerico.

The Mt. Zion building burned in 1850 and a new Lutheran church was built in Darrtown.

The Darrtown Lutheran church was named in honor of St. Matthew - who was, according to the Bible, one of the twelve apostles of Jesus and, according to Christian tradition, one of the four Evangelists

Some of the early members of the church will be familar to residents of Darrtown: George Kramer, George Rudisill, George Stertzenbach, Samuel Smith, Barbara Kramer, Mary Ann Rudisill, Sarah Shaffer, Mary Copp, Michael Crull, Hester Crull, Elizabeth Stertzenbach, Mary George, Margaret Shaffer, Sarah E. Moore, Catherine Myers, William Moor, Margaret Tryan, Judith Kramer, Mahala Hawk, Samuel Schollenbarger, Jeremiah Tryan, Elizabeth Orin, Eli Copp, David Warner, and Benjamin Hawk.
